Liputan6.com, Jakarta - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), one of Indonesia’s coal producers, has demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the nation’s energy supply. In the first quarter of 2026, the company allocated funds for exploration activities focused on the Tanjung Enim mining area in South Sumatra.

To achieve this objective, PTBA has incurred expenses of Rp 25.80 billion (unaudited) in the first quarter of 2026. These activities involve PTBA’s internal team as well as drilling contractors, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to exploration efforts. The primary focus of this exploration is the Tanjung Enim Mining Site (TEMS).

Exploration activities conducted by PTBA at the Tanjung Enim Mining Site (TEMS) in the first quarter of 2026 included drilling, geophysical logging, coal and rock sampling, and monitoring of the ToC-BoC at the mine front. This information was cited from an IDX disclosure on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Drilling operations were conducted at four mining permits—namely the Air Laya, MTB, Banko Barat, and Banko Tengah B permits—at 94 locations, reaching a total depth of 14,652 meters. The primary objective of the drilling activities in the first quarter was to expand the exploration coverage area in TEMS.

PTBA revealed that other exploration activities were conducted across five of its IUPs (Mining Business Licenses) in TEMS. These activities included coal and rock sampling at exploration drill points, as well as coal sampling from active pits for quality control (QC) purposes. The progress recorded includes 1,202 coal samples (from drill cores and mine fronts), 302 rock core samples for rock acidity testing, and 693 rock core samples for rock mechanics testing. Additionally, TOC (Top of Coal) and BOC (Bottom of Coal) measurement monitoring was completed over an area of 602 hectares.

These activities were carried out by an internal team in collaboration with PT Resources ID, utilizing coring, open-hole, and geophysical logging methods.

As a result, the company successfully completed 94 drill points with a total depth of 14,652 meters through infill drilling. Additionally, there were 90 further drill points with a total drilling length of 12,982 meters.

These activities aim to expand the exploration coverage within active mines while improving the accuracy of coal reserve data. Moving forward, the company plans to continue these drilling activities in 2026 to support its long-term production targets.

Coal Quality Testing and Rock Characteristics

In addition to drilling, the company also conducted coal and rock sampling in the areas of Muara Tiga Besar, Air Laya, West Banko, and Central Banko A and B. A total of Rp 6.12 billion was allocated for these activities.

The execution involved an internal team and PT Resources ID, focusing on coal quality analysis and rock characteristics. From these activities, 1,202 coal samples were collected for quality analysis. Furthermore, 302 drill core samples were obtained for rock acidity testing, alongside 693 drill core samples for rock mechanics testing.

The company ensures that these sampling activities will continue throughout 2026. Separately, the company also conducted monitoring activities with a total expenditure of Rp 0.92 billion.

These monitoring tasks were performed entirely by the internal team using the mine front TOC–BOC (Top of Coal – Bottom of Coal) monitoring method. The monitoring covered an area of 602 hectares, aimed at ensuring that mine operations remain aligned with the work plan as well as safety and environmental standards.
